Goodbye Intel, Hello A6.

With the combined successes of Mac and iOS, Apple has decided to bring back their own line of processors.  By 2012, Apple is going to be bringing the ARM-based A-series processors to not only iPhones, but also Macs — starting with the MacBook Air.

We believe Apple is ready to start sampling the A6 quad-core app processor and will be the first to such multi-device platform capable of PC-like strength.

For the more powerful machines like the MacBook Pro, iMac, et cetera, Apple has plans to move those machines to the ARM-based processors by 2016 as technology advances.  For the time being, Apple will be staying with the Intel series of processors to compute these higher end machines.

Our preliminary view is that Apple can use a 32-bit ARM architecture to address the vast majority of the OS X ecosystem’s needs in 2012-13 except for high-end professional devices.  When 64-bit ARM is available in 2016, we believe Apple will have a single OS and hardware architecture.

In addition to the major hardware change, there are some ideas floating around that iOS & Mac OS X will eventually be merging into one single product.  Essentially, keeping the two products separate will lead to a long and difficult strategic road for Apple.

However, this isn’t the only time Apple has attempted to do this.  In May, one rumor stated that Apple has successfully created a MacBook air utilizing the A5 chip found in the iPad 2.  At the same time, there was also another report stating that Apple is planning to ditch Intel processors processors “as soon as possible”, likely by 2012 or 2013.

Mac OS X Lion hints a possible iOS merge with all of it’s similar features.  Could Apple continuous innovations move the Mac to a true Apple exclusive product?

Leaked Verizon Roadmap Shows No Hints of the “iPhone 5″

leave a comment »

So while I was making my rounds on some tech fields today, I came across this post made by IGN.  The photo above is a picture coming from the Verizon Store workstations showing the next device lineup for September and October.

If your a Motorola Xoom owner like I am, I’ve been waiting for the 4G LTE upgrades in upwards of 7 months.  So apparently, the upgrade for the device will be coming around by September 8th with the possibility to be 1 week earlier.

The Samsung Stratosphere, said to be the Samsung Galaxy S II, will be making it’s way to the Verizon stores on September 8th as well.  It’s also going to fully support Verizon’s 4G LTE network.

Now, I’m sure your all wondering, “Where the hell is the iPhone?”  Well, if it is true, do you seriously think that Verizon would tell it’s employees about the most secretive & most rumored phone on the market?  Let alone put it in digital print?

What interests you about this photo?  Looking forward to any new devices coming out?

Final New iPhone Rumors — I Promise!

leave a comment »

There are rumors popping up left and right about the all new Apple iPhone with a rumored launch for either September or October.  You have seen a few posts here earlier about the iPhone 5 in possible development and manufacturing stages by Pegatron.  There is also some rumors that the iPhone 4/5 is in it’s final testing stages and will have a September launch.  With all this being said, it’s finally time for the last and final rumor of the iPhone 4/5 from some very reputable sources.

There are rumors speculating that there is not just going to be one iPhone but two new iPhones.  The lower cost iPhone will be $350 off contract similar to the iPhone 3G vs. the iPhone 3G[S].

Finally, we’re hearing about the new iPhone 5 with a final September release and the all ears on deck announcement happening in August.  Essentially we don’t have to wait long in order to see if this rumor is true.  Will Apple have some last-minute keynote up their sleeves to unveil the new kind of all phones?  The rumored iPhone 5 has some pretty killer specs if I do say so myself:

  • Larger Screen (4 in. — Edge to Edge)
  • 8MP Camera (Possibly Manufactured by Sony)
  • iOS5 Goodness

Unfortunately, there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that the next new iPhone is going to have any type of 4G capabilities and that includes LTE and HSPA+.  Honestly, I have yet to have an idea as to when this is going to happen.  Apple is most likely waiting on the 4G technologies to become more mature as more 4G compatible towers begin popping up over the US.

Now the real thing that has my eyes open is the fact that the next iPhone 4/5 will be on all cellular networks.  This includes Sprint & T-Mobile!  If this is indeed true, anyone on any carrier can walk into any cell store and experience the iPhone for themselves.

Overcharged for Lion? – Apple’s Got Your Back

leave a comment »

I came across an interesting post recently stating that users who paid for Lion through the Mac App Store was severely overcharged to the point where some customers were short almost $4,000.  The most severe case was a poor user who was charged for Lion 122 times.  The email you see above (courtesy of MacRumors) is for a user who was charged a total of 8 times.  Apparently, Apple is going in order by the users who were charged the least making their way up to the users who was charged the most.

The user who was charged 122 times eventually made clear:

Apple kept me on a very need-to-know basis all along, but once I confirmed the money was in my PayPal account, he then asked for a list of fees to review. Once he saw the fees (very minimal), he offered to pay them and give me a bit extra to pay any additional fees I incur.

Other users who were also charged multiple times should see an email like above very soon.

Pegatron Beginning to Build the New iPhone 5?

leave a comment »

According to a post made by DigiTimes, Pegatron (one of Apple’s original design manufacturers [ODM]) has received 10 million orders for the next iPhone by Apple.  According to industry sources, it is said that the official launch date will be some time in September.

As iPhone gross margins are relatively small, Pegatron aims to compete for orders for iPad, MacBook Air and other Apple products and has increased production equipment and employment, the sources said.

It is expected by 2012 that Pegatron will be receiving orders for 8 – 10 million Acer notebooks according to the same sources.

The Latest From the iPhone 5 Rumor Mill

leave a comment »

There have been rumors flying everywhere in regards to the new iPhone said to be coming out between October and September.  There are also rumors to whether or not the next iPhone is going to simply be a less-expensive version of the iPhone 4 or a full-blown new iPhone dubbed iPhone 5.

A reputable Vietnamese website apparently showed a possible prototype of the next iPhone 4[S] (?).  According to this Engadget article and this CNET article, it is said that the new iPhone 4 is going to be the same exact design except when it comes to the front and the back of the device.  Instead of having 2 sheets of glass covering the front and the back of the device, it is said that there is going to be a much cheaper plastic.  This is very much similar to the aluminum MacBook vs. the plastic white MacBook.  There also appears to be a new iOS feature that is just bound to be in the future iOS5.

According to a MacRumors post, there is a new thing going around saying that Apple is testing the new iPhone 5 with only high-level Apple executives and the same for the cellular networks.  Essentially, this means that they are carrying around the next iPhone 5 in some type of field test, very much similar to the time when the drunken Apple employee left the original iPhone 4 on a bar-stool.

The Guardian is also stating that the iPhone 5 is indeed in this field-testing state.

My carrier sources tell me that the boxes in which the new iPhone hardware is encased have been transported to carriers for testing. This is an important step in the release cycle for any phone. … The next iPhones go for their testing inside locked and sealed boxes so that the carriers can carry out checks on their network compatibility in their labs. It’s very high security, as you could guess; my understanding is that barely anyone inside the carriers gets to open those boxes, and even when they do the hardware is encased in a dummy body which means there’s no clue to what the actual phone will do.

If this is true, it should take no where in excess of 2 – 3 weeks to complete this testing.  Afterwards, Apple will begin the production of the new phone for a possible September launch.
